I've just finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. (latest installment, for those of you playing along at home who clearly haven't left your house since December)
GIVING NOTHING AWAY, I'll say this much:
- She has an uncanny ability to make me say "Didn't see that coming". A lot.
- I had to force myself to leave the book alone on Sunday because I was getting bed sores from my reading session; it's that gripping.
- She builds to a great climax and I cannot wait for the next one to come out, whenever that may be. Although I suspect she's written it already and is just sitting on it for a bit.
- Kristin was right, damn you! :-) all those years ago in LA when we discussed Harry Potter instead of paying attention to Lighting Genius and his lovely slides
- Although this isn't my favorite of the books, I think this will make the best movie. Tri-Wizard tournament comes a close 2nd. Of course, it all depends on whether They realize that kids will indeed sit 3 hours for Harry so cramming it all into a 90 minute greatest hits clip? Unnecessary.
Anyone wanting to discuss the book, feel free to email me and do so. Those of you that haven't read it yet, get on it!
So, moving right along.... I have very little else to say yet feel compelled to write since Billy and Ellen manage to write an entry every day. And Ellen with a new little tyke even. Sigh... self-imposed pressure to perform. What is this, architecture?
I finally managed to make it to the Temple Bar Market on Saturday. Flatmate Suzie and I went in to town and did some shopping; she was amusing her eyes, I was looking for something to wear to brother Dan's wedding in October. More on that front later. I never seem to remember the market and several people have recommended it to me, so I made a beeline for Meeting House Square and had a look. And then I slapped my forehead. It's only on Saturday because on Sunday (you guessed it) they're down at Dun Laoghaire. So I've been schlepping down there for no particular reason. Which is fine, because I really like the town and spending time there and now that I know I can get my sun-dried tomatoes in town, I don't have to take the bus there, which takes close to an hour. The train is being worked on until September. Which really means November. So, yeah! and D'oh! all in the same moment.
I met up with FS after my little market epiphany to have lunch and go try on a dress I thought would be "perfect" for the wedding. Yeah. I tried it on, we both liked the color. That's it. Just the color. So she bought a dress to show me how it's done. (or because she has a weakness for dresses) The search continued and it was disgusting. I know it's just a number, really I do, but somehow a woman's self-esteem and body image are related to clothing sizes. And I know that manufacturers change them frequently to keep us shopping, but still. I was ok being an 8-10 in the US. And I could deal with my shoes being an 8. But now I'm a 12 or 14 and my shoe size has shot up to 38!! Jerry Sienfeld's waist isn't that large, altered tags or not. It was depressing. And what's worse is that every article of clothing varies in their size so you have to take a 12, 14, and a 16 in just to see if it runs small or large. So even before you find the right size you've either squeezed into one or watched it hang off you, neither of which is a good experience. I hate shopping and this is why. It's too easy to look like hell. So I'm calling out for a boycott of all clothes until the manufacturers realize they can no longer screw with us and bully us into buying their idea of the perfect size! No more I say. It's time to take a stand. Where's Norma Rae when you need her?
Suffice it to say I still have nothing to wear to the wedding. I ended up at my favorite bag store, coveting their entire (expensive!) stock. I almost had to call someone to drag me out of the store before I plunked down my credit card. Such nice bags though... If the bag is really amazing, do you think they'll notice I'm wearing PJ's at the wedding?

That better be one hell of a bag! I haven't gotten around to reading the latest H.Potter book. I'm still working on a death defying thriller presented to me in school. It is called "The Little Engine that Could." I'll let you know how it turns out. I sure hope he makes it.
when i was in switzerland, my clothing size was anything from a 36 to a 40 (depending on the store). Ugh. size 40? maybe when I AM 40!
And the trends at the time were all trailor trash looking. You have to look, well, European to pull that look off.
This is why I never shopped until I came home!
Ok, I didn't read this entry today, i just wanted to share because I'm on Page 2 of the 6th Harry Potter installment. (we have kids, i get to read from the time they go to sleep to when I fall alseep which is about 7 minutes afterwards). I didn't get to spend all night waiting to buy it in the store. Instead i ordered it about 3 months ago. We paced all day saturday awaiting our shipment when I found out that the warehouse was out and I could expect the book within 30DAYS. So I went to Target at Lunch on Monday where they had about 45 copies. I only bought one though. we are very excited. I also will say this, by page two, I thought to myself.."I didn't see that coming"
Rich
Yep, you just don't see it coming, do ya? Be warned, this one gets darker than the rest of them, so go slowly with the girls toward the end. Have a great read though!!
