Ummm... Ok...
It was an interesting morning on the bus, as they often are. Riding along as usual, reading something, the bus stops, the door open and I look up just in time to see the driver (who, incidentally I call the Captain because he wears a cap and reminds me of Captain and Tennille. Not that I have many memories of them but still…) the driver holds up one finger (a polite one) and calls out to us “One minute” and then gets off the bus, goes into a shop and buys 2 packets of crisps and a newspaper. 2 minutes later we were on our way. I especially loved that he excused himself to us first, like we were going to go anywhere in the meantime. It was just odd. I’m starting to understand Tomas more and more. What interests me in this whole scenario is when exactly he's going to read the paper. He's a bus driver. Shouldn't he be paying attention to the other drivers and stuff? Has it been that long since I've driven a car that I no longer have accurate memories of what is involved in the operation of a motor vehicle? Maybe I'm just doing the "When I was your age, I walked to school barefoot in the blinding snow, uphill both ways" thing, but I distinctly remember reading not being one of the activities encouraged while driving. Staying awake, strongly encouraged. Finding out if Posh and Becks have done anything stupid recently? Optional. Especially while driving.

Actually Beth, here in LA, if you aren't reading the newspaper, while drinking coffee, putting on your make-up (if you are female), lighting your cigs, sending a text message on your cell, driving with your knees, and flipping off everybody who comes within 5 feet of your vehicle on the freeway with both hands, I think you get a ticket for it. Pretty damn expense too. All of this is standard on the CA driving test. If you can't demonstrate these basic skills, you just might be a danger on the road.
