Taxi Ride (potentially from hell) Home

Oh sweet Jesus.

On my way home from dinner with friends, a very civilized affair that began at 9pm and ended with drinks and a taxi at 12:30am, I instructed the driver to go left at the former Seapoint house. Normally this begets a conversation about how it used to be the Seapoint house, is now a no-name bar, hot pink stucco, whatever… but this evening, a left turn was diverted due to the Guarda. The entire place was surrounded with police, onlookers, squad cars with flashing lights, high vis jackets and, most disturbingly, the paddy wagon. 2 years I’ve been living in this part of town and there have never been any troubles. Ok, they did burn that new BMW SUV for Halloween (it was empty) but other than that, it has been relatively trouble free. Other than the Harry Potter book release party, the only youth night activity we’ve witnessed was a teenage fight gone horribly awry last month which resulted in the stabbing of a 19 year old Irishtown resident by an 18 year old Irishtown resident, an act that shocked the entire city of Dublin because Irishtown is "such a good part of town these days”.

And now this fresh hell. We’ll see in the morning what happened. I can only hope it is a fire alarm gone off in the wrong. Anything to the contrarry and it has to be asked: what has happened to my sleepy little retirement community?
